David E. “Smokey” Dale

Multi-Media Artist: Airbrush, Spray Gun, Photography & Video, and Computer Design.

Born in January 1950, the fourth of eight siblings in Ingersoll, Ontario.

1956 - At age six entered a cartoon drawing contest on CFPL, TV London.  The drawing was shown on TV and the announcer said I didn’t win, but it was pretty good for a six year old.

1962 - was allowed to leave school two hours early on Fridays to take drawing lessons at the library.

1965-1966 - Built model cars and entered contests.  Won Best of Show and First Place.

1967 - Was a Junior Forest Ranger near Cochran, Ontario and my life-long friend Paul McSherry started calling me “Smokey the Bear” and it stuck.

1969-1972 - Attended Fanshawe College School of Design and graduated with a diploma in Environmental Planning.  My Thesis was Park Planning.

1972-1979 - Owned and operated Smokey’s Custom Paint Shop.  With the help of my brother Donald, and a friend or two, we painted award winning cars, vans, hotrods, and motorcycles.  Drivable Art.

1975 - Two airbrush paintings entered in Gallery Stratford Juried Show.

1979 - Started work at St. Thomas Ford Plant.  Retired May 31, 2007 with 28.1 years of service.  Twenty-five of these years were spent in the Paint Department.

1980 - Solo Art Show at Ingersoll Creative Art Centre - Air Brush Paintings.

2008 - Joined the Potters’ Guild at the Ingersoll Creative Art Centre.  Pottery & Photography displayed in several members shows and Studio Tours.

2012 - Became a  Member of the Boathouse Gallery at the Art Emporium.  “The Art Emporium is a great place.”
